About Lancaster, MA

Lancaster is an attractive little bedroom town bursting with life. While the town has few industries, the main focus is more on the residents, offering a spread of municipal services to the people who call Lancaster home.

Lancaster holds the title of being the oldest town Worcester County, having been incorporated in 1642. In 1676 the town was attacked by the local Native Americans. Mary Rowlandson had been captured by the natives during King Philips War. She was released at Redemption Rock for a price of twenty pounds in money and goods, and one pound of tobacco.

As the center of commerce back in the old days, many wealthy people called Lancaster home. As you drive down the open main street, you will be able to catch a glance at these exuberant mansions that have been lovingly restored. Having been a dry town since the day Lancaster had been incorporated, there is only one restaurant and no taverns.

Built in 1816, the red brick Meeting House had been designed by Charles Bullfinch. Thayer Memorial Library has a stunning octagonal reading room with a large dome overhead.

The residents of Lancaster absolutely love their town. The pride they take in the littlest detail can be seen in everything they do. Wouldn’t you just love to be a part of that community?
